Scotland Yachting Vacation – Scotish Itinerary

Scotish Itinerary –  You join the ship in Mallaig on the west coast of Scotland so that you could have a trip on the “Jacobite” steam train on the West Highland line from Fort William.  It is the train that features as the “Hogwart’s Express” in the Harry Potter movies and is one of the most fantastic train journeys in the UK.  You get to Mallaig, by Flying to Glasgow and then taking the train to Fort William and on to Mallaig.

Scotland Yachting Vacation – Itinerary

Join Ship Saturday lunchtime in Mallaig, sail to anchorage at Inverie, a small village with no road access but importantly a fine pub “The Old Forge” with live music which claims to be Scotland’s remotest pub.

Sunday, Sail across to lunchtime anchorage at Loch Scavaig tucked right under the massive Cullin hills, on the south coast of Skye, afternoon sail to the Isle of Canna, anchor in  Sanday bay.

Monday Sail to the little town of Tobermory on Mull, afternoon shopping in its little center Tuesday am, visit whisky distillery in Tobermory.

Tuesday PM sail to Fingals Cave to see the giant basalt columns and famous cave (inspiration for Mendelssohn’s Fingal’s Cave overture), west of Mull, anchor in Loch Tuath  on West Coast of Mull.

Scotland Yachting Vacation – Wednesday am visit the Isle of Iona (where St Columba landed from Ireland to bring Christianity to the Scots in 563 AD), tour of St Columba’s cathedral on Iona, Sail to anchorage on Loch  Fyne, passing through the Gulf of Correyvreckan (a famous Whirlpool at mid tides – we tackle it a slack water)

Thursday,  sail to  Port Ellen on the Isle of Islay, visit the Lagavullin Whisky distillery

Friday am after breakfast Fly from Islay Airport (10 km from Port Ellen) to Glasgow and home.
